Manu from Aleppo
What do Freedom and Silk have in common?
is our freedom, just like a face mask made of pure silk. We must take care of both and do something to preserve them.
Ten face masks were sewn by tailor Manu from exclusive tie silk. Manu has a special relationship to freedom. Because he had lost his, he values it all the more. Especially freedom in peace and democracy. His history moves:
Exactly five years ago to the month Manu Ibrahim, who had fled from Aleppo in Syria, arrived in the Würzburg area. His long journey was connected with countless dangers, fears, but also hope. He was only 28 years old at that time, and could neither read nor write. But yet he was a brilliant specialist: a highly trained model cutter. He had already learned his craft at the age of 15 in Afrin, Syria, then in Lebanon; Later he had perfected it in Istanbul, where he gained international experience before settling back in his home town. But soon working and living there became impossible. Manu saw no way out for himself and his small family and decided to flee.
Today he not only knows reading and writing, he also speaks good German and has his own tailor shop in Würzburg. He is happy to fulfill the wishes of his customers: from inserting zippers to sewing a tailor-made suit. Now he is free to live and work. Happy with his family. And grateful for everything. And the people of Würzburg are grateful that Manu is there.
